Europe is a very big place with 46 countries and 700 million people.
A group called the Council of Europe wants everyone to learn new languages, no matter how old they are. They believe that learning different languages helps us understand each other better and make friends from different cultures. That is why they encourage everyone in Europe to speak more than one language!
At the Council of Europe’s initiative, the European Day of Languages has been celebrated every year since 2001 on 26 September - together with the European Commission. EUROPE
